    Shanghai University is a comprehensive university under the leadership of Shanghai and the key construction of the "211 Project" of the state. It is a University jointly constructed by the Ministry of education and the Shanghai Municipal People's government.     In October 1922, the Communist Party of China co founded Shanghai University, with the president Yu Youren and the chief of education QuQiubai. This is a revolutionary school known as "wuyouhuangpu and wenyoushang University". It was forcibly closed by the Kuomintang authorities in 1927.

    In 1983, the Shanghai Municipal People's government resumed Shanghai University (formerly Shanghai University) on the basis of Fudan University, Shanghai Foreign Language College, East China Normal University, Shanghai University of science and technology, Shanghai Institute of machinery light industry and Shanghai Academy of fine arts.

    In May 1994, the new Shanghai University was established by Shanghai University of Technology (founded in 1960), Shanghai University of science and Technology (founded in 1958), former Shanghai University (founded in 1983) and Shanghai University of science and Technology (founded in 1959).
