Hou Lian, Director of Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering
▶Experience introduction
Houlian, born in 1957, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Environmental engineering expert, who has been committed to scientific research, engineering design and technical management in the field of environmental engineering for a long time, has taken the lead in proposing and successfully developing water treatment and air purification technology and series of equipment with independent intellectual property rights in the aspects of safety guarantee of drinking water, treatment of scattered point source domestic sewage and air purification of human settlements, and has made many breakthrough achievements and rich Creative achievements. He has won 5 national science and technology progress awards, 26 military and ministerial science and technology progress awards and teaching achievement awards, 23 national patents, 3 monographs, 5 national military standards and more than 200 academic papers.
In July 1975, Houlian graduated from Huashan middle school in Fengxian County, Jiangsu Province. He was selected to be a teacher training class because of his excellent performance. He could have been a teacher. But he had the dream of joining the army since childhood, and he chose to become a soldier of infrastructure engineering.
In September 1978, recommended by the army, Hou Li'an participated in the national unified college entrance examination and was admitted to Xi'an Institute of metallurgy and Architecture (renamed Xi'an University of architecture and technology in 1994) to study water supply and drainage. He joined the Communist Party of China in December of the same year
At the beginning of 1986, Hou Li'an, as the project leader, submitted a military order to undertake the scientific research task of sewage treatment plant to the organization. When the organization decided that he should undertake the project, he visited 18 experts and scholars from the Institute of building information, the national defense patent office and the Beijing library, translated and sorted out more than 200000 words of foreign literature, and understood and mastered the domestic and foreign sewage treatment plants in China Treatment plan.
In September 1991, he studied for a master's degree in environmental engineering of Tsinghua University (graduated in March 1994).
In 1994, he served as a member of the expert group and the project leader of "harmful gas purification device".
In February 1995, he joined the Second Artillery Engineering Design and Research Institute of the Chinese people's Liberation Army and successively served as deputy director (February 1995 to December 1996), director of the sixth room (January 1997 to March 2000) and Deputy Chief Engineer (March 2000 to March 2000).
In September 2002, he studied for a doctor's degree in Environmental Engineering in the Research Institute of chemical prevention of PLA (graduated in July 2006).
On October 29, 2005, he won the invention and entrepreneurship award awarded by China Invention Association at the Great Hall of the people.
In December 2009, he was elected academician of the Chinese Academy of engineering.
On June 17, 2013, he was employed as a professor of Qiushi in Zhejiang University.

Hou Li'an took the lead in proposing and successfully developing water treatment and air purification technologies and equipment with independent intellectual property rights in the aspects of drinking water safety, decentralized point source domestic sewage treatment and air purification of human settlements, and has made a number of breakthroughs and creative achievements. Hou Li'an invented a number of forward-looking technologies and key equipment for environmental pollution control, solved the technical problems of water pollution treatment and indoor harmful gas purification, developed China's special water pollution control and confined space harmful gas pollution control theory, and enriched China's environmental protection theory.

As of June 2018, Hou Li'an has published 5 monographs, compiled 5 national military standards, published more than 300 academic papers, and obtained more than 30 national patents.

As of June 2018, Hou Li'an has successively won more than 40 important scientific research achievements, 6 national science and technology progress awards, and 26 provincial and military science and technology progress awards. Among them, Hou Li'an and his research group have completed the WD type domestic sewage treatment device, won the third prize of national science and Technology Progress Award, the major science and Technology Achievements Award of PLA logistics during the Eighth Five Year Plan period, and the military science and technology progress award.
