Ministry of ecological environment: the proportion of excellent water quality in Bohai Coastal Waters has been greatly increased

Huochuanlin, deputy director of the marine ecological environment department of the Ministry of ecological environment, introduced on September 25 that the water quality of the coastal waters of the Bohai Sea was generally in a good trend, and the proportion of excellent water quality was greatly improved.

At a press conference held by the Ministry of ecological environment on the same day, huochuanlin said that as one of the seven landmark campaigns in the fight against pollution prevention and control, the core objectives of the comprehensive management battle in Bohai Sea have made breakthrough progress. The water quality of the Bohai Sea area is generally in a good trend. The excellent water quality ratio in the first and second quarters of this year reached 79.4% and 81.6% respectively, which increased by 9.4 and 2.2 percentage points respectively compared with the same period in 2019; preliminary monitoring in the third quarter showed that the excellent proportion of water quality in the coastal waters of Bohai Sea was 87.1%, which continued to show a positive trend.

According to the requirements, 10 national control sections of the rivers entering the sea shall be eliminated from inferior class V water bodies. He said that from January to August, 10 national control sections of the rivers entering the sea all achieved the goal of eliminating inferior V-Class. At the same time, the investigation and treatment of sewage outlets into the sea has realized "investigation and inspection", and more than 18000 outlets have been found. At present, the work of tracing the source is being promoted.

The improvement and restoration of coastal wetland and shoreline has been greatly accelerated. More than 60 projects in three provinces and one city along the coast have been started. By the middle of August, the area of the restored coastal wetland exceeded 3300 hectares, and the newly renovated and repaired shoreline exceeded 58 km. After the completion of the project, more than 6900 hectares of coastal wetland will be restored, and more than 70 km of the new rehabilitation shoreline will be added.

Huochuanlin said the comprehensive management of Bohai Sea has entered the sprint stage. The Ministry of ecological environment will focus on key objectives and indicators, work together with relevant departments and three provinces, one city, to ensure that the tasks are completed on time and ensure that the quality of ecological environment in Bohai Sea can be steadily improved.
